Please note this is a permanent full-time position, working Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:00, with occasional Saturday work.
As a Medical Lab Assistant, you will:
- Prepare samples for analysis using the current laboratory protocol.
- Assist Associate Practitioners in maintenance and preparation of equipment.
- Help maintain adequate levels of reagents and consumables.
- Perform laboratory cleaning duties and dispose of waste.
- Sort and identify specimens received.
- Assist in areas of Quality Management as necessary.
- Register patient details and tests required on the laboratory computer system.
- Prepare samples where appropriate for analysis.
- Work within the departmental good laboratory practice, health and safety policy and code of conduct.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and ensure workbenches are tidy.
- Safely handle and dispose of blood, urine or other biological material or hazardous chemicals.
- Prepare referral samples for external laboratory analysis.
Qualifications:
- Educated to GCSE/A level or equivalent.
- Able to communicate and work within a team.
- Numerate and able to undertake scientific calculations.
- Punctual and reliable.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
