The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.

Please note we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. The purpose of this role will be to supervise the Water Microbiology team. The role will require coordination and prioritisation of sample processing, planning and day to day management of the team and management of the consumables and equipment. Please note the working hours of this role are 37.5 per week - Tuesday to Saturday 09:00 till 17:00.

Day to day supervision of the Water Microbiology Laboratory, including deputising for the Laboratory Manager in their absence. Planning and management of the team to achieve laboratory metrics. Management of equipment and instruments. Consumables and stock management. Proactively work with other teams to anticipate and resolve issues. Driving continuous improvement and workplace efficiency using lean principles. Work with laboratory management to keep on top of all key performing indicators. Ensure all team members are performing duties/tests to the specified quality and technical standards. Proactively and professionally communicate with clients regarding any issues that may impact their samples keeping the Water Customer Services and Account Management team informed. Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Manual to always ensure compliance with the policies, procedures and associated documents referred to in the manual. Assist Laboratory Manager in driving the laboratory forward through continuous improvement and deliver best practice to meet the requirements of ISO 17025 and maintain UKAS Accreditation. Investigate instances of non-conformance to find root cause and implement solutions. Ensure COSHH and risk assessments are up to date. Ensure personal protective clothing equipment is worn in accordance with the Health & Safety policy. Identify, raise and investigate hazards and accidents. Ensure that the team are working safely following Safe systems of work.

Qualifications

  • Maths, English, Chemistry or Biology at GCSE grade C or above or equivalent.
  • Practical knowledge of commercial laboratory operation.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 and UKAS accreditation.
  • Proven experience of practical application of Microbiology analysis.
  • Good laboratory skills and practices.
  • Good people management and team management skills.
  • Enthusiasm, energy and a driven outlook.
  • Effective communication skills both written and oral.
  • High level of attention to detail.
