We are seeking a junior analyst to join our fast-paced water microbiology department in Belfast. This is a fixed term contract until January 2026, working 36.25 hours per week, on a rotating shift pattern which will include Monday to Friday and Tuesday to Saturday - 06:00-14:00 / 10:00-18:00. During training the normal hours will be 08:00-16:00 or 09:00-17:00. Staff will also be required to cover bank holidays on a rota basis. Flexibility in working hours is required and overtime will be required to be worked at short notice during peak business demands during the week and at the weekend.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of media (agars etc.) to be used in microbiological analysis
  • Sample preparation in line with company protocols
  • Microbiological analysis of water samples in line with company protocols
  • Training and operation of relevant equipment
  • General housekeeping of laboratory and prevention of cross contamination
  • Accurate record-keeping associated with UKAS quality system
  • Effective communication with all employees
  • Report any anomalous results or situations to Laboratory Supervisor
  • Health and Safety procedures are adhered to within the laboratory

Minimum Requirements:

  • A level in a science related subject (preferably Biology)
  • GCSE English and Mathematics and Science or equivalent
  • Computer literate with experience of MS Office applications (in particular Excel)
  • Comfortable working in a busy environment
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work quickly and accurately
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
