Working hours are Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:00. Occasional Saturdays may also be required. We are looking for candidates that have experience of working in a fast paced environment. No scientific background necessary.
As a Medical Lab Assistant within Blood Sciences you will prepare samples for analysis using the current laboratory protocol, to assist Associate Practitioners in maintenance and preparation of equipment.
Main Duties- Specimen collection, registration and preparation
- Receive, sort and identify specimens received.
- Register patient details and tests required on the laboratory computer system.
- Prepare samples where appropriate for analysis.
- Enter request on the laboratory LIMS and prepare samples for analysis under supervision of the BMS(s).
- Operate equipment such as loading centrifuges and automated equipment and use of pipettes and computer terminals in accordance with the laboratory SOPs.
- Maintain laboratory and ensure workbenches are clean and tidy.
- Safely handle and dispose of blood, urine or other biological material or hazardous chemicals.
- Prepare referral samples for external laboratory analysis.
- Educated to GCSE Level.
- Numerate and literate.
- Able to communicate and work within a team.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Ability to work to deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow procedure.
- Experience of working in a fast paced environment.
