This is a six‑month fixed‑term contract, full time 37.5 hours per week (Mon‑Fri 14:00‑22:00). The purpose of this role is to complete the analysis of food samples for a given method using laboratory techniques and to assist in the efficient day‑to‑day operation of the laboratory.
Responsibilities- Undertake all tasks within the main laboratory appropriate to the level of training given by team leaders and management.
- Register, prepare, and analyse food samples as required.
- Adhere to documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, ensuring accurate recording and maintenance of all necessary records and quality data.
- Complete all relevant paperwork throughout the day.
- Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
- Maintain a turnaround time of >99%, ensuring daily targets are achieved.
- Ensure UK health and safety legislation is maintained and the working environment remains clean and tidy.
- Wear personal protective clothing in accordance with the Health & Safety policy.
- Work with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
- Apply the Laboratory Quality Manual to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and associated documents.
- Assist in operating best practice to meet the UKAS accreditation standard.
- Maintain a “clean as you go” mentality.
- Be flexible to assist other departments as required.
- Assist with continuous improvement within the microbiology department.
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
- Desirable to have experience in fast‑pace production work.
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Good organisation and time‑management skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to self‑motivate.
