The role supports the Operations Team in the application and ongoing compliance of Eurofins Linlithgow Quality Systems, providing quality control oversight and support across all departments. Please note this is a full time role working 40 hours a week - Monday to Friday 09:00 till 17:00.
Responsibilities- Carry out routine quality control checks to support day-to-day laboratory operations and ensure compliance with internal procedures and accreditation requirements.
- Perform and document equipment calibrations, verification checks, and associated record keeping to maintain confidence in results and equipment performance.
- Prepare internal quality control (QC) materials and samples, ensuring correct preparation, traceability, storage, and labelling.
- Test Proficiency Testing (PT) samples as required, ensuring results are generated and submitted in line with deadlines and quality expectations.
- Prepare, label, and manage reagents and standards in accordance with approved methods, ensuring correct identification, expiry tracking, and storage conditions.
- Complete environmental monitoring activities in line with site quality requirements, recording results accurately and escalating deviations where necessary.
- Maintain training records and quality documentation, supporting competence, traceability, and audit readiness.
- Investigate customer complaints relating to quality and laboratory output, supporting fact-finding, evidence gathering, and corrective actions where required.
- Investigate Non-Conforming Work (NCWs), ensuring issues are documented clearly, actions are progressed, and learning is captured appropriately.
- Participate in root cause analysis activities (e.g., 5 Whys / Fishbone), supporting effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Support method development activities where required, contributing to improvement, optimisation, and controlled implementation into routine use.
- Support method validation work, ensuring required testing, documentation, and evidence is generated in line with quality standards and accreditation expectations.
- Carry out hygiene checks and audits, reporting findings and supporting corrective actions and follow-up.
- Support and participate in test witness audits, ensuring readiness, compliance, and completion of any required actions.
- Educated to HNC/HND level (or equivalent) in a science-related discipline, or able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience in a laboratory / QC environment.
- Good understanding of Quality Control requirements and laboratory QC processes, including routine checks, calibration requirements, and data/record integrity.
- Awareness of working within a regulated laboratory environment with a strong focus on compliance, traceability, and accurate documentation.
- Previous experience in a QC or QT role, ideally within a laboratory setting, both Microbiology and chemistry.
- Experience following controlled procedures, maintaining records, and working to agreed turnaround times and priorities.
- Demonstrable experience supporting investigations (e.g., complaints, non-conforming work, deviations) and escalating issues appropriately.
- Competent IT skills, including the ability to use laboratory systems and Microsoft Office effectively.
- Good working knowledge of Excel (data entry, formatting, basic formulas, filtering/sorting, and maintaining accurate records).
- Ability to manage and maintain QC documentation and records accurately, ensuring traceability and version control.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Professional and approachable manner with the ability to build effective working relationships across departments.
- Clear communication skills (written and verbal), with confidence liaising with operational teams and escalating issues where required.
- Ability to prioritise workload effectively and remain organised in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible and proactive approach, with a willingness to support wider business needs when required.
