This is a part time role. 16 hours per week. Sun (09:00 – 17:00) & Tues (11:00 – 19:00).

Purpose of the post:

  • Working within a busy, fast paced laboratory, performing a range of different Chemical testing on a high volume of water samples.
  • To assist in the efficient day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
  • To share the vision of providing the best possible quality to ensure each sample is processed with precision and accuracy.
  • Preparation and analysis of water samples for a variety of different manual methods such as Suspended Solids by filtration and Taste and Odour analysis, in accordance with laboratory methods following good laboratory practice.
  • Running and management of analytical instruments such as ICP-MS and Aquakem Colorimetry automation in accordance with laboratory methods following good laboratory practice.
  • Ensure samples received are handled in accordance with documented procedures, including attention to temperature control, storage and maintenance of sample integrity.
  • Perform Calibrations and daily checks of equipment in line with our quality procedures.
  • Monitor lab supplies and inventory and restock where required.
  • Collaborate with other team members and show flexibility to help meet demand and achieve the required turnaround time ensuring results are reported on time.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy working environment and ensure cleanliness and hygiene levels remain at a high standard.
  • Take responsibility for your own training records to gain full competency in the tasks you perform and to keep abreast of any updates required.
  • Understand the concept of 5S and adhere to the principles set within your area.
  • Work with the team to drive the department forward through continuous improvement.
  • Work with the team to ensure that all waste generated is removed from the lab via the correct waste streams and seek ways to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Undertake any other reasonable task or responsibility requested by a senior manager.

Qualifications:

  • Maths, English, Chemistry or Biology at GCSE grade C or above or equivalent.
  • Experience in a fast-paced working environment and working under pressure to meet demand.
  • Proficient in using IT systems.
  • Enthusiastic and able to work efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisation skills.
  • Good communication skills and a team player.
