Job Description

The Product Compliance Specialist will play a key role within our Retail Solution Centre in ensuring that all retailer products, their packaging, labelling, artwork and documentations meet applicable regulatory, environmental, and quality standards. The product approval process will follow the critical path to product launch. Supporting our clients and their suppliers, the Specialist will work cross-functionally to ensure that all aspects of the product comply with relevant requirements, providing expert guidance and technical support.
Main duties:
- Responsible for technical and regulatory compliance across a broad range of Hardlines product categories, including (but not limited to) electrical and battery‑powered products, toys, baby and childcare products, seasonal and decorative items, household goods, fitness and wellness products, pet products, crafts and stationery, and food‑contact articles.
- Ensuring products comply with applicable UK and EU legislation, relevant British/EN standards, and specific retailer requirements, including safety, labelling, marking (UKCA/CE), testing and documentation obligations.
- Managing products through the approval process, ensuring Critical Path deadlines are met through to launch.
- Reviewing and approving technical specifications, test reports, risk assessments and compliance documentation to ensure products are legally compliant and fit for purpose.
- Review and approve product packaging, artwork, and labelling to ensure accuracy and compliance with regional and product specific regulatory and retail requirements.
- Providing clear technical and regulatory guidance to internal teams and external stakeholders, including suppliers and test houses, and managing non‑compliances, corrective actions and supplier performance.
- Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date product compliance status, ensuring all documentation and communications are logged and controlled effectively.
- Working with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems to manage critical path milestones, approvals and document control across all assigned product categories.
- Collaborating closely with client’s Quality Assurance, Buying and Product teams to support compliant product development and timely delivery.
- Attending supplier and retailer meetings, both face‑to‑face and via Microsoft Teams, to provide technical input and compliance updates as required.
- Supporting wider business needs through additional reasonable tasks aligned to the role.
Qualifications
What We Are Looking For:
- Experienced in a similar regulatory or technical compliance role. ideally within Quality, retailer or supply chain environment, covering multiple Hardlines product categories (minimum two), such as electrical, toys, baby, food‑contact, household or seasonal products.
- Strong working knowledge of UK and EU product safety legislation, including the General Product Safety Regulation, with experience applying product‑category‑specific regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
- Experience reviewing and approving packaging, labelling, artwork and product documentations for compliance.
- Proven experience and understanding of product sealing procedures.
- Understanding of critical path management and working with retailers, brands, buying and sourcing offices, vendors, suppliers, and factories.
- Understanding manufacturing processes and production experience in the product areas.
- Demonstrates a self-motivated, resilient and above all positive approach to working with all stakeholders.
- Highly organised, detail-orientated, and comfortable managing multiple projects and stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and translate into actionable business requirements.
- Team spirit is essential and must be a pro-active, organised and resilient individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment with a “can-do” attitude.
