Euroclear are seeking a Legal Counsel to join their UK Legal Team. You will be part of a local team in the UK and will be part of a larger legal, governance and regulatory division located across multiple jurisdictions. The UK team is primarily responsible for supporting Euroclear’s UK securities settlement business (Euroclear UK & International) as well as contributing to the activities of the wider Euroclear Group.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop an understanding of the systemic role of financial market infrastructures in the operation of the UK economy and the legal and regulatory framework supporting this.
  • Advise on new product launches and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify and advise on new laws and regulations that are relevant to the business.
  • Answer legal questions arising from operational queries from the business or external clients.
  • Update contractual documentation.
  • Provide legal advice and support the business and financial crime team on issues relating to AML/KYC issues and UK, US and EU sanctions.

Skills required:

  • Qualified lawyer, ideally 2+ years PQE.
  • A corporate, company law, banking/capital markets, financial services or financial technology background is desirable but not essential.
  • An interest in the opportunities presented by developments in financial technology and how legal frameworks can be adapted to accommodate this is essential.
  • Is highly effective at establishing relationships in a pan-European context with colleagues from multiple legal entities across the Group.
  • Able to provide clear advice to colleagues of varying levels of seniority and skill sets within the business.
  • An understanding of how to leverage AI tools such as CoPilot in the legal context.
