Position Overview: Toolmaker – Site Based at Clover Nook Site, Somercotes, Alfreton. Salary £20.41ph. Hours: 4 on, 4 off shift 0600-1800. Benefits include Healthcare Cash Plan, 3x Salary Life Assurance, High Street Discounts, Staff Discount.

Job Description: You will be making and repairing extrusion and injection mould tools, jigs and fixtures, troubleshooting extrusion and injection moulding equipment to find out whether it is or isn't the tool causing an equipment failure and maintaining tooling so that our uPVC products can be manufactured with minimal, or zero interruption caused by faulty tooling.
What Our Toolmakers Do:
- Diagnose and resolve tooling-related issues in the extrusion process.
- Identify wear, defects, and other technical problems affecting product quality or production efficiency.
- Ensure all extrusion tools and dies meet quality standards and are within tight specified tolerances.
- Work closely with the engineering team to optimize tool designs.
- Assist with new product development by providing technical insight and tooling expertise.
- Proactively suggest improvements to tooling designs and manufacturing techniques to improve production speed, reduce material waste, and increase tool longevity.
- Maintain accurate records of tooling specifications, repairs, modifications, and tool performance data.
- Troubleshoot faults in the manufacturing process to determine whether there is a tooling problem requiring fix or repair.
- Read and understand technical drawings to manufacture/make parts and tools for the extrusion facilities and injection moulding.
- Use manual workshop machinery and EDM machinery.
What We Need From Our Toolmakers:
- Minimum Level 3 Qualification in Engineering/Apprenticeship in Toolmaking, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Strong understanding of plastic extrusion processes, tooling design, and the behaviour of various plastics during extrusion.
- Knowledge of materials, particularly in relation to plastics used in extrusion processes.
- Proficiency in precision machining, including turning, milling, sparking and grinding.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to quickly diagnose tooling or extrusion issues.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Proven experience as a toolmaker in a plastic extrusion or similar manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with various extrusion tooling materials and an understanding of how different materials affect the extrusion process.
