About The Role

Associate Lecturer in Science Education (Temporary Assignment)

We are seeking to recruit an Associate Lecturer in Science Education who will be based in the School of Education. The Associate Lecturer in Science Education will be responsible for contributing to the design, delivery, and evaluation of high-quality Science Initial Teacher Education (ITE), supporting trainee teachers to develop subject knowledge, pedagogy, and professional practice required for effective Science teaching in schools.

This post is available from 14th September 2026 on a temporary basis.

Pay will be at a rate of £45.83ph for approximately 9 hours of teaching and £21.63ph for approximately 170 hours of marking, tutoring and administrative work.

About You

Essential Criteria

  • A degree in Science or closely related discipline
  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS or equivalent)
  • Experience teaching Science in English secondary schools
  • Experience of supporting trainee or early career teachers
  • Excellent teaching and communication skills
  • Ability to inspire and support trainee teachers
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with schools and colleagues
  • Skilled in giving constructive, developmental feedback
  • Commitment to high-quality teacher education
  • Reflective and evidence-informed practitioner
  • Enthusiastic about Science and education
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion

Desirable Criteria

  • A postgraduate qualification or doctorate in a related field
  • Experience working in Initial Teacher Education or teacher training
  • Experience of school partnership work
  • Experience contributing to curriculum design
