A part-time (0.6FTE) post as Department Manager supporting the Classics, Ancient History, Religion and Theology (CAHRT) Department is available immediately on a fixed term basis for 6 months. Applications for secondments will be considered subject to agreement from your current line manager. Salary will be £43,482 per annum pro rata on Grade F subject to knowledge, skills and experience. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working - some time on the Streatham campus and some from home. Interviews are expected to take place on the 20th of August.
The Department Manager provides embedded operational and strategic support direct to the Academic Department in support of the Departmental and Faculty strategic aims. Jointly reporting to the Law School Manager and to the Head of Department (HoD), the Department Manager will be the Professional Services (PS) lead for the Department, responsible for facilitating the delivery of the Department’s strategic plan and leading on operational delivery. Working closely with the HoD and the Department Leadership Team, they will coordinate Professional Service support to support the Department's priorities in research, education and external engagement.
The postholder will need to apply and demonstrate the following skills and behaviours:
- Agility and flexibility: to respond effectively to rapidly changing demands and to be innovative and maximise opportunities.
- Fluidity: in terms of reporting relationships and sense of “belonging”, so that colleagues feel empowered to work collaboratively and inclusively towards agreed objectives and without silos.
- Connectedness: promote connections between the component parts of PS at every level to inhibit development of silos, and with the academic and student community to enable greater alignment with the University’s core objectives.
- Efficiency: to eliminate unnecessary duplication of effort, streamline decision-making, release more time for activity that adds value, and which considers our commitment to sustainability.
- Inclusivity: To value the contribution that all bring and to promote an approach that allows our staff and students to contribute fully and effectively.
