We are seeking a Senior Systems Business Analyst to take end-to-end ownership of analysis and change delivery for a highly bespoke, business-critical legacy system supporting a long-standing Reinsurance client within the London Market. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to an experienced professional who is comfortable operating in legacy environments and can bridge business needs with system capability—shaping requirements, supporting prioritisation, and ensuring changes are specified, tested, and delivered with minimal disruption.
The role requires strong, hands-on capability across Ingres (including Ingres-specific SQL) and Unix/AIX, with confidence working with batch processing, month-end readiness and London Market message flows, and supporting analysis of C with embedded SQL and Ingres 4GL where required. A key part of the role is to proactively review current business and operational processes, identify improvement opportunities, and iteratively maintain clear, up-to-date documentation as the system and client needs evolve. The successful candidate will operate in an embedded capacity as a primary point of contact for the client, taking accountability for outcomes across incidents, enhancements, and ongoing system stability.
Key Responsibilities
- Systems analysis & change delivery
- Own end-to-end analysis for change requests and production issues impacting the bespoke legacy Synergy environment, acting with high autonomy and accountability
- Lead triage and investigation of P1–P3 incidents and service requests within the client’s ticketing system, clarifying scope, urgency, and business impact
- Work closely with Ingres, Unix/AIX, SQL, scripts, and batch processes to understand current behaviour, constraints, and change impacts
- Own requirements and readiness for month-end processing and London Market message flows, ensuring changes are assessed and validated before release
- Support analysis of C programs with embedded SQL to trace issues, define fixes, and confirm expected outcomes
- Prioritise work with stakeholders, balancing incidents, deadlines, and enhancement demand
- Review and document current end-to-end processes (business and operational), identify gaps and improvement opportunities, and maintain process documentation as changes are delivered
- Elicit, analyse, and document business requirements; translate them into clear functional specifications aligned to Synergy and associated batch processes
- Assess and specify changes for new syndicates, reinsurance updates, and calculation/rules amendments, including downstream operational impacts
- Define test scenarios, coordinate testing, and support stakeholder sign-off for Synergy application changes (no core development)
- Serve as a trusted client advisor, shaping options and recommendations within system constraints and business priorities
- Lead requirement workshops and key decisions with senior stakeholders; confirm scope, assumptions, and outcomes
- Communicate status, risks, and dependencies clearly, own issues through resolution and post-change validation
- If not in the London or Chelmsford area, you will also need to travel to our office in Chelmsford, Essex, 1 day a month, however, travel will be expensed.
