We're looking for an Android Engineer who is passionate about building high quality mobile applications with customer needs at the centre of every decision. You'll value writing clean, maintainable, and well tested code while thriving in a fast moving Agile environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining features across our Android applications
  • Collaborating closely with cross functional teams to deliver high quality digital products
  • Building intuitive, visually engaging, and user friendly mobile experiences
  • Writing clean, scalable, maintainable, and testable Kotlin code
  • Supporting development activities across the ScottishPower family of Digital platforms
  • Driving continuous improvement across development processes, tooling, and customer experiences
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance app performance, usability, and engineering practices
  • Working collaboratively with Analysts, Designers, and Testers to deliver solutions aligned to stakeholder and customer needs
  • Contributing to technical discussions, architecture decisions, and code reviews
  • Supporting the delivery of Digital objectives through innovation and engineering best practices

Skills:

  • Strong commercial experience with Kotlin and/or Java
  • Experience using Android Studio
  • Experience building Android applications using MVVM architecture
  • Strong understanding of Jetpack Compose
  • Familiarity with Android Jetpack libraries such as LiveData, Navigation Component/NavGraph, and local persistence solutions such as ObjectBox
  • Experience working with Coroutines for asynchronous programming
  • Comfortable integrating with RESTful APIs using tools such as Retrofit
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
  • Experience with Gradle
  • Understanding of the Google Play release process
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams
  • Strong debugging and problem solving skills
