Are you an experienced Senior Technician, Engineering Technician, Vehicle Technician, Test Technician or Workshop Technician looking for a 12-month contract within a leading engineering research and development environment?

This is a hands-on technical role supporting the preparation and delivery of vehicle, safety and security testing programmes, while providing day-to-day guidance, coordination and technical support to technicians across the facility.

You will play a key role in ensuring testing activities are prepared and delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

This could be an excellent opportunity for someone with a workshop, vehicle testing, engineering or technical background who enjoys practical problem solving, coordinating activities and working within a dynamic engineering test environment.

Please note: this is a hands-on role which involves working outdoors in all weather conditions.

The Senior Technician Role

As an Engineering Technician, you will work alongside experienced Engineers and Technicians to prepare specialist equipment and facilities for engineering tests.

You will play an important hands-on role in ensuring test facilities, equipment and instrumentation are correctly prepared and maintained before, during and after testing.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Supporting the preparation of vehicles, test assets and facilities for vehicle, safety and security testing.
  • Coordinating daily technician activities and allocating tasks across the team.
  • Providing technical guidance, support and on-the-job training to Technicians.
  • Supporting the delivery of vehicle, safety, security and infrastructure testing programmes.
  • Assisting with calibration, maintenance and workshop compliance activities.
  • Helping maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance across the test facility.
  • Carrying out practical checks and preparation activities before testing.
  • Identifying practical problems and helping develop effective solutions.
  • Working closely with Engineers, Test Engineers and Technicians to ensure testing activities are delivered effectively.
  • Senior Technician Candidate Requirements

We are looking for an experienced Senior Technician, Engineering Technician, Test Technician, Workshop Technician or Vehicle Technician with the technical capability and confidence to coordinate and support other technicians within a busy engineering environment.

You should have

  • A Level 4 / HNC engineering related qualification.
  • Strong practical engineering and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working within a workshop, engineering, manufacturing, automotive, vehicle testing or technical environment.
  • Previous experience of leading, mentoring or coordinating colleagues within a technical, engineering, workshop or testing environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple activities and priorities.
  • Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Engineers, Technicians and other stakeholders.
  • A flexible approach and the ability to adapt to changing requirements within a fast-paced test environment.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety and quality.

The key requirement is a strong technical background combined with experience of coordinating or supporting other technicians within a practical engineering, workshop or testing environment.
