An opportunity to join a leading, multi-disciplinary engineering team as a Test Technician within a well-equipped test facility based in Basildon. This role supports the preparation, setup, and maintenance of mechanical and environmental testing systems, contributing to high-profile projects in electric vehicles, defence, and advanced R&D sectors.

This Test Technician job will suit:

  • A hands-on Technician / Mechanical Technician / Engineering Technician who enjoys building, assembling, setting up test rigs, and supporting mechanical testing processes.

  • You will likely hold a Level 3 or Level 4 qualification (such as BTEC, HNC, or similar) in Mechanical Engineering or have equivalent practical experience in a test/laboratory environment.

  • Strong practical skills using hand tools, basic machine tools (pillar drills, mills, lathes), and basic measurement instruments (calipers, gauges, multimeters).

  • Confident working both independently and in a team, with a methodical approach and a good understanding of safety procedures in a technical test environment.

  • Any experience with environmental testing (vibration, shock, climatic), electric vehicle systems, or battery technologies is beneficial but not essential.

  • You must hold a full UK driving licence.

This Test Technician job will involve:

  • Preparing test setups including jigs, fixtures, rigs, and instrumentation for vibration, shock, pneumatic, and hydraulic tests.

  • Supporting engineering teams in the execution and clean-down of customer testing projects, following ISO 17025 and QHSE procedures.

  • Carrying out maintenance and continuous improvement tasks within the facility.

  • Assisting in solving technical challenges during test rig design or setup phases.

  • Handling test data and documentation in accordance with company process standards.

  • Occasional travel to other test facilities (e.g., Nuneaton) and flexible shift patterns depending on project demand (not night shift).

  • Writing technical reports and contributing to documentation as needed.
