An established UK-based engineering and technology organisation is looking to recruit a Software Test Engineer to support the build and testing of software used across its products and services. This role would suit a Software Test Engineer with a solid technical background who enjoys working closely with development teams in a practical, hands‐on environment.
The Role
As a Software Test Engineer, you will be responsible for building and testing software, producing test documentation, and supporting software integration activities. The Software Test Engineer will work closely with engineers, customers and collaborators to ensure software is delivered to a high standard.
Key responsibilities
- Building and testing software to support products and services as a Software Test Engineer
- Producing and maintaining software build and software test specifications
- Acting as a technical point of contact on software-related matters
- Supporting and improving the testability of software
- Assisting with software integration activities across the development lifecycle
- Undertaking additional project tasks as required
The Software Test Engineer role will occasionally involve travel within the UK and overseas, including visits on board ships.
Essential Requirements
- Technical or engineering background
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good PC skills, including experience with Microsoft Office
- Good understanding of the software engineering lifecycle, particularly test and integration
- Knowledge of scripting or programming languages to support automated builds and testing
- Willingness to travel occasionally in the UK and abroad
Experience Required
- At least 1 year's practical experience testing software on Windows-based PCs
- Experience writing test plans, test specifications and test reports
- Experience building software and software installers is desirable
- Previous experience in a similar Software Test Engineer role within a technical or engineering environment is preferred
Qualifications
- Engineering degree with a strong software content, or equivalent qualification
- Lower qualifications will be considered where supported by relevant hands‐on experience
