Salary Guide: £30,000 to £38,000 plus shift pay

Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire / Nuneaton, Warwickshire

Hours: 39 hours per week

Choice of early or late shift pattern:

  • Early Shift: Monday to Friday, 5:00am–1:00pm
  • Late Shift: Monday to Thursday, 2:00pm–midnight

This is an excellent opportunity to join an experienced automotive engineering team preparing vehicles for testing within a highly advanced R&D test environment.

The role would suit a practical, hands-on Automotive Technician / Vehicle Technician who wants to be involved in cutting edge automotive engineering testing.

The Vehicle Technician Role

As an Automotive Technician / Vehicle Technician, you will work alongside experienced Engineers and Technicians to prepare specialist equipment and facilities for engineering tests. You will play an important hands-on role in ensuring test facilities, equipment and instrumentation are correctly prepared and maintained before, during and after testing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare vehicles for testing.
  • Fit instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition equipment.
  • Vehicle trim removal, restraint system removal and refit and similar activities.
  • Support data acquisition activities.
  • Support fabrication activities including cutting, grinding, and drilling.
  • Support equipment checks, and maintenance activities.
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping, safety and equipment condition.
  • Following appropriate engineering, safety and quality procedures when working with specialist and high-value equipment and vehicles.

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for a practical and technically capable Automotive Technician / Vehicle Technician / Workshop Technician, OR Test Technician who is comfortable working in a hands-on role preparing vehicles for testing in an automotive engineering environment. You should have:

  • A minimum Level 3 engineering qualification or equivalent, such as an engineering apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds or BTEC.
  • Previous experience working within a vehicle workshop, automotive engineering environment, test facility, or similar.
  • Good practical engineering skills and a hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • The ability to work safely and methodically with engineering equipment and machinery.
  • Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
