Engineering Technician – Engineering R&D Test Facility

12-Month PAYE Contract, £17.00–£19.00 per hour + Shift Premium, Approx. £35,000–£40,000 Annual Earnings

Choice of early or late shift pattern

  • Early Shift: Monday to Friday, 5:00am–1:00pm
  • Late Shift: Monday to Thursday, 2:00pm–midnight

Are you an Engineering Technician, Mechanical Technician, Workshop Technician or Test Technician looking for a 12-month contract within a state-of-the-art engineering research and development facility?

This is an excellent opportunity to join an experienced engineering team supporting the preparation, set-up and execution of engineering testing within a highly advanced R&D test environment.

The role would suit a practical, hands-on Engineering Technician who enjoys working with engineering equipment, solving technical problems and supporting engineers and technicians to deliver testing safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

A background in automotive, vehicle testing, engineering workshops, manufacturing, facilities or test environments would be beneficial, although candidates with a strong general engineering background will also be considered.

The Engineering Technician Role

As an Engineering Technician, you will work alongside experienced Engineers and Technicians to prepare specialist equipment and facilities for engineering tests.

You will play an important hands-on role in ensuring test facilities, equipment and instrumentation are correctly prepared and maintained before, during and after testing.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Preparing and setting up engineering test equipment and specialist test facilities.
  • Supporting Engineers and Technicians with the execution of engineering tests.
  • Preparing and installing test instrumentation and associated equipment.
  • Carrying out checks on test equipment and facilities prior to testing.
  • Undertaking facility and test equipment maintenance before and after testing.
  • Supporting the safe and efficient operation of engineering test facilities.
  • Using computer-based data collection and test systems.
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping, safety and equipment condition.
  • Following appropriate engineering, safety and quality procedures when working with specialist and high-value equipment.
  • Engineering Technician – Candidate Requirements

We are looking for a practical and technically capable Engineering Technician, Mechanical Technician, Workshop Technician, Test Technician or Maintenance Technician who is comfortable working in a hands-on engineering environment.

You should have

  • A minimum Level 3 engineering qualification or equivalent, such as an engineering apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds or BTEC.
  • Previous experience working within an engineering workshop, manufacturing environment, test facility, laboratory, maintenance environment or similar.
  • Good practical engineering skills and a hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • The ability to work safely and methodically with engineering equipment and machinery.
  • Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
  • Good basic computer skills, with the ability to use computer-based data collection systems.
  • Previous experience with vehicles, automotive engineering, vehicle testing or an automotive workshop would be advantageous but is not essential.
