An exciting opportunity for an experienced Data Architect with an immediate start at a market leading, dynamic and renowned property, technology and innovative, technology-based car parking company. Euro Car Parks is a market leading, renowned UK business, established over 50 years ago. The company operates over 3500 sites across the UK and Ireland providing specialist services to a wide range of blue-chip clients.
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Data Architect who is equally comfortable designing the target state for a multi-system SQL data estate, writing and tuning the T-SQL that delivers it, and standing up the security, monitoring and operational practices that keep it running. You will own data architecture across our reporting, ANPR, finance and operational domains, working alongside our Solutions Architect, Head of Business Solutions and Head of Development as part of a small, high-impact architecture cluster.
This is not a paper-architect role. The successful candidate will pick up an in-flight, multi-year programme to decouple and replatform the ETL processes that sit behind every report and every operational data feed at ECP, continue the migration of our data warehouse and data lake to a modern dimensional model, finish the rollout of a principle-of-least-privilege security model across a multi-server SQL estate, and continue the migration of our reporting estate from SSRS to Power BI. You will set the technical direction for the data team and personally deliver the most architecturally significant pieces of work.
Main Responsibilities
- Setting and personally delivering target architecture for the ECP data estate: the data warehouse, data hub, data lake, raw/ODS layers, dimensional model, audit and schema-change tracking, and the load schedules that tie them together.
- Hands-on T-SQL, stored procedure, ETL framework and PowerShell development at expert level: partition design and partition-aligned indexing, clustered/nonclustered index strategy, deduplication, parallel-run cutovers, schema migration, performance tuning of high-impact production queries.
- Driving the in-flight ETL replatform: replacing legacy SSIS jobs with a table-driven, parallel-run E-L-T framework, removing Linked Server dependencies, eliminating the BI-server database-restore dependency, and adding monthly partitioning to support retention and archival.
- Owning the SQL estate end-to-end as the senior practitioner: security model design and rollout, backup and restore strategy, retention and archival, replication, monitoring, licensing, performance triage, and incident response.
- Acting as design authority for the wider data team: coaching the SQL Developers on Power BI authorship, dimensional modelling, query optimisation and report development; reviewing data-related changes from across IT Dev; and providing data-architecture input on cross-team initiatives.
- Owning the Power BI / SSRS reporting platform technically: driving the SSRS-to-Power BI migration, designing the dataset and refresh strategy, and stewarding the report glossary, naming convention and underlying SQL views.
- Owning the canonical data dictionary and data domain definitions: keeping types, domains, lineage and load schedules current as the source of truth for engineering decisions across IT Dev.
- Triaging and resolving the data-related ticket tail from the application support service desk: ETL job failures, ad-hoc data corrections for blue-chip clients, permissions requests, performance investigations, replication failures.
- Active participation in all team ceremonies: daily stand-up, sprint planning, retros, sprint reviews, story-mapping, and architecture review.
- Contributing to forward planning for the SQL estate direction: Azure SQL adoption, on-prem retirement, tooling roadmap, and integration with new business systems.
Essential Skills
- Expert-level T-SQL and SQL Server internals (5+ years), including partitioning, indexing strategy, query plan analysis, dynamic SQL, and stored procedure design at scale.
- Experience with Redgate tooling.
- Hands-on data warehouse design and build: Kimball-style dimensional modelling, incremental and full-load patterns, slowly changing dimensions, ETL/ELT framework design.
- Production ETL development: SSIS for understanding/decommissioning legacy work, plus modern alternatives for new build.
- Operational SQL Server experience as the senior responsible person.
- Multi-instance estate experience is essential.
- Azure SQL including security model and migration patterns from on-prem.
- Power BI / SSRS authorship and architecture experience.
- Data security model design.
- PowerShell for SQL administration, ETL orchestration glue, and operational scripting.
- Working in an agile environment using JIRA and Confluence.
- Affinity with AI-driven development tooling.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with dbt or comparable analytics-engineering frameworks.
- Experience working with legacy SSRS estates and migrating reporting workloads to Power BI.
- Experience with on-prem SQL Server on VM as well as Azure SQL.
- Experience with SQL replication and the operational realities of running it in production.
- CDC and change tracking experience for incremental load patterns.
- Experience working in a data-centric organisation with significant volumes of operational data.
- Domain experience in vehicle/ANPR/parking, transport, retail or financial-services data.
- Azure DevOps experience.
- Familiarity with ISO 27001 controls relevant to data systems.
- Experience designing or maintaining operational data dictionaries and data lineage documentation.
