The Role

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computer Science, focusing on structural and algorithmic graph theory. The role involves contributing to the project \”Algorithmic meta-classifications for graph containment,\” collaborating with Professors Matthew Johnson, Barnaby Martin, Daniel Paulusma (Durham University), and Vadim Lozin (University of Warwick).

The project aims to develop algorithmic meta-classifications to determine when computationally hard graph problems can be efficiently solved on specific graph classes based on properties C and P.

This project is funded by The Leverhulme Trust (RPG-2024-182, Principal Investigator: Professor Daniel Paulusma).

This is a fixed-term position for 26 months, ending on 29 February 2028, unless a later start date is arranged.

The successful candidate will be part of the ACiD group within Durham University\’s Department of Computer Science.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Understanding and communicating complex technical material through presentations and discussions, leading to research publications.
  2. Delivering presentations on research outputs to diverse audiences, including sponsors and academic peers.
  3. Publishing high-quality research papers for journals and conferences under guidance.
  4. Assisting in developing research objectives and proposals.
  5. Conducting individual and collaborative research projects under supervision.
  6. Collaborating with colleagues to identify research areas, develop methods, and expand the research portfolio.
  7. Addressing research challenges proactively and innovatively.
  8. Building relationships for future research collaborations through internal and external contacts.
  9. Managing own research activities and resources, contributing to project planning.
  10. Providing training in research techniques to peers, visitors, and students.
  11. Supervising students and assisting in their assessment.
