Are you an experienced technical specialist with expertise in psychology, neuroscience, research technology or laboratory management? We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technician to provide specialist technical leadership and support within our School of Psychology. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative teaching and research projects while working alongside academic staff, researchers and students in a collaborative university environment.
Working one day per week, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful operation of specialist research equipment, laboratories, software platforms and technical services that support world-class psychology and neuroscience research.
About the RoleAs Senior Technician, you will provide expert advice, technical leadership and hands‑on support across a range of teaching and research activities. You will:
- Lead and coordinate specialist technical support within the School.
- Support psychology and neuroscience research projects from design through to data collection and analysis.
- Provide expertise in specialist research technologies, software and laboratory environments.
- Deliver training, workshops and demonstrations to staff and students.
- Maintain and develop research laboratories, equipment and technical resources.
- Advise on the procurement, evaluation and implementation of specialist equipment and services.
- Support the use of research platforms such as PsychoPy, Pavlovia, QuestionPro and related technologies.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, data protection and research governance requirements.
- Build collaborative relationships with researchers, technical teams and external partners.
We are looking for an individual who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent communication and problem‑solving skills. You will have a degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Biological Sciences or a related discipline, or significant equivalent experience. You will have experience providing technical support within higher education, healthcare or research settings and also experience supporting psychology or neuroscience research equipment, software and laboratory environments.
