Offer Description

The Architecture discipline at Queen\’s University Belfast, based in the School of Natural and Built Environment, has a very strong reputation for its teaching standards and growing research profile at both national and international levels.

The purpose of this full time, permanent, role will be to contribute to the advancement of architectural knowledge and practice through high-quality, REF-returnable research, excellence in teaching, and creative design-led inquiry. The role involves producing internationally recognised research outputs that demonstrate originality, significance, and rigour; securing research funding; and generating impact beyond academia through engagement with industry, policy, and communities.

The successful applicant joins a vibrant and growing research team within Architecture, with a clear focus on high quality peer reviewed journal outputs and UKRI and EU collaborative applications. They will deliver inspiring and inclusive teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, integrating research-led content and studio-based design pedagogy. They will supervise student research and design projects, contribute to curriculum development, and support the strategic goals of the School and University in relation to REF and civic engagement.

Main duties of the post:

  • To demonstrate leadership by undertaking, or contributing to School, Faculty or University initiatives to grow research income, improve student experience and improve international student intake.
  • To inspire and motivate students to learn.
  • To contribute to leadership and administrative processes of the Architecture discipline at a level commensuratewith stage in career.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a PhD in Architecture, or a related subject.
  • Hold a 2(i) (or international equivalent) degree, or higher in Architecture.
  • A strong record of publications, commensurate with career stage, in the wider Architectural field in peer reviewed/refereed journals that are REF returnable within the UoA13 Unit of Assessment.
  • Provide a history, commensurate with career stage, of applying for peer reviewed research income from research councils and other relevant research funding bodies, where funding is competitively awarded.
  • Evidence of teaching or contribution to design programmes, and other related areas aligned to stage of career.
  • High level of analytical capability.
  • Demonstrable ability to work in a team and lead elements of activities.
  • Demonstrable intellectual ability.
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively with a high level of graphic and design awareness and ability.
  • Developed English language skills sufficient to relay complex information in English both orally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to enhance student engagement and provide support to students.
  • Proven ability to work in a team to deliver high quality teaching and research.
