Offer Description
We are recruiting a Bioinformatician to develop the RNAcentral and Rfam databases, key resources for RNA Biology. The role involves maintaining and developing bioinformatic pipelines, importing data, performing quality controls, creating analyses, and ensuring pipeline functionality. The successful candidate will stay updated with RNA science, develop new features, and engage with the scientific community through conferences and meetings.
You should have:
- Masters level or equivalent in computational, biological, or related sciences
- Knowledge of RNA biology and Python
- Experience with relational databases and SQL
- Proficiency with Git/GitHub, Unix, Bash
- Track record of developing bioinformatics pipelines
- Knowledge of software development best practices
- Familiarity with Docker or similar technologies
Preferred additional skills include experience with high-performance computing, bioinformatics pipeline libraries, peer-reviewed RNA biology publications, machine learning, social media outreach, and Rust programming.
Additional Information
Working Arrangements: Hybrid work with dedicated desk, collaborative days on Monday and Tuesday, and options for remote work.
Interviews: Starting 29th September 2025 remotely, with panel interviews from 17th October 2025.
Contract Length: 3-year grant-based with potential extension.
Salary: Grade 5, starting at £3,303/month after tax, plus benefits.
