The Role
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computer Science, focusing on structural and algorithmic graph theory. The role involves contributing to the project \”Algorithmic meta-classifications for graph containment\”, working with Professor Matthew Johnson, Dr Barnaby Martin, Professor Daniel Paulusma (Durham University), and Professor Vadim Lozin (University of Warwick).
The project aims to develop algorithmic meta-classifications, indicating that any computationally hard graph problem satisfying condition C can be efficiently solved on a graph class if the class has property P.
This project is funded by The Leverhulme Trust (RPG-2024-182, Principal Investigator: Professor Daniel Paulusma).
This fixed-term position lasts for 26 months, ending on 29 February 2028, unless a later start date is agreed.
The successful candidate will join the ACiD group within Durham University\’s Department of Computer Science.
Key Responsibilities
- Understanding and communicating complex research material through presentations and discussions, leading to conference publications.
- Delivering presentations on research outputs to diverse audiences, including sponsors and academic/non-academic groups.
- Publishing research in peer-reviewed journals and at conferences under the guidance of the Principal Investigator or Grant-holder.
- Assisting in developing research objectives and proposals.
- Conducting individual and collaborative research projects.
- Collaborating with colleagues to identify research areas, develop methods, and expand the research portfolio.
- Addressing research challenges proactively with innovative solutions.
- Building relationships for future research collaborations.
- Planning and managing own research activities and resources.
- Providing training in research techniques to peers, visitors, and students.
- Supervising students and assisting with assessments as appropriate.
- Fostering an inclusive, respectful, and collegial working environment.
