An experienced Financial Controller to join our finance team. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will lead UK finance operations while owning group consolidation (small US and New Zealand entities) and strengthening financial control, reporting quality, and cash discipline across the business. You will manage a small team of two accounts assistants and play a key role in delivering a timely month-end close, high-quality management accounts and robust balance sheet control. Ideally, you have experience in a similar professional services or project-based business and enjoy improving processes and partnering with stakeholders across the organisation.
Your responsibilities:
- Finance operations & close
- Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable, including expenses processing, payment controls and management of our invoice finance facility.
- Own and continuously improve the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and clear accountability across the team.
- Management reporting & analysis
- Lead the accurate and timely preparation of monthly management accounts, including commentary and variance analysis.
- Provide clear, decision-useful insights to senior leadership, linking financial performance to operational drivers.
- Group accounting & balance sheet
- Maintain balance sheet schedules and reconciliations, ensuring timely issue resolution.
- Prepare and post monthly work-in-progress (WIP) in line with agreed methodology.
- Own group consolidation (across UK and international entities), including intercompany and group reporting packs.
- Statutory reporting, tax & audit
- Meet regulatory and statutory responsibilities, including VAT filings, year-end accounts preparation and audit coordination.
- Proactively seek to support finance improvement projects (e.g. redesigning forecasting models, streamlining processes, and identifying automation/AI opportunities).
- Business partnering
- Proactively business partner with key stakeholders in the organisation to improve collaboration across different departments.
- Support senior leadership with performance insights, cost control and forecasting.
Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent), ideally 2–4 years PQE (newly qualified considered with strong month-end ownership and people leadership exposure). Experience working in an organisation with less than 250 employees. A proactive problem-solver who is happy to roll their sleeves up and is comfortable working into the detail and improving processes. Strong technical accounting knowledge (e.g., revenue recognition and group accounts/consolidation). Collaborative, professional and flexible approach; able to partner with non-finance stakeholders. Strong organisational and prioritisation skills; able to manage deadlines and competing priorities. Strong Excel skills; experience with NetSuite (or similar ERP) and financial modelling. Experience leading a small team, supporting their development and managing their performance and empower them to help them be their best. Experience working in a consultancy (sustainability is preferable). Experience working in a global setting such as NZ, US and across Europe.
