As a Principal Electronics Engineer, you will become one of the technical leaders within the business, helping define engineering direction, driving best practice, and providing expert guidance across multiple programmes. Key responsibilities

  • Leading the design and development of complex electronic systems from concept through to production and in-service support.
  • Acting as the technical authority for electronics across multiple projects and programmes.
  • Defining system and subsystem requirements, ensuring solutions meet customer, regulatory, and operational needs.
  • Providing expert guidance on analogue and mixed-signal electronic design, architecture, and component selection.
  • Conducting circuit analysis, simulation, design reviews, and technical investigations.
  • Overseeing schematic capture and guiding PCB layout activities to ensure optimum performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Supporting verification, integration, qualification, and production activities.
  • Working closely with customers, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Mentoring and developing engineers, helping to build technical excellence across the organisation.
  • Contributing to engineering strategy, technology roadmaps, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications / skills required

  • HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Significant experience designing electronic systems within high-reliability or regulated industries.
  • Strong analogue electronics design and circuit simulation expertise.
  • Proven ability to lead technical activities and influence engineering decisions.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as RS485, SPI, I2C, CAN, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of component selection, derating, reliability, and lifecycle considerations.
  • Experience producing and reviewing schematics and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of PCB design principles, layout supervision, and design-for-manufacture practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with customers, suppliers, and engineering teams.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and capable of leading technical delivery in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with EMC design.
  • Experience with Altium Designer.
  • Experience working within the defence or aerospace.
