Multi-Disciplinary Market Risk & Operations Analyst
Location: London
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Employment Type: Permanent
The Opportunity
Our client is a specialist commodities brokerage looking to hire a highly versatile individual to work closely with the Head of Risk and Chief Technology Officer. This is a particularly broad role, suited to someone who enjoys working across different areas of a business rather than operating within a narrowly defined function. You will sit close to the senior leadership team and gain exposure across market risk, operations, business analysis and project management.
The ideal candidate is likely to have experience within a broker, trading firm, commodities business or other fast-paced financial markets environment, with a strong understanding of how a brokerage operates.
What You'll Be Doing
- Working closely with the Head of Market Risk across a broad range of business priorities.
- Supporting market risk processes, controls and reporting.
- Analysing trading, operational and risk data to identify trends, issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Working with front, middle and back-office teams to understand processes and resolve issues.
- Supporting and driving business improvement initiatives and projects.
- Documenting and improving business processes, controls and procedures.
- Acting as a bridge between business users, risk, operations and technology.
- Producing MI, management information and analysis for senior stakeholders.
- Supporting system enhancements, implementations and other change initiatives.
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, automation and controls.
- Taking ownership of ad-hoc projects and initiatives from initial requirements through to delivery.
- Helping to ensure that operational and risk-related processes remain robust as the business develops.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is commercial, analytical and hands-on, with the ability to move comfortably between different areas of the business. Ideally, you will have:
- Experience working within a broker, commodities firm, trading house, investment bank or similar financial markets environment.
- A good understanding of how a brokerage/trading business operates.
- Experience across two or more of market risk, operations, business analysis, change or project management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to understand complex processes and identify practical improvements.
- Strong Excel/data analysis skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with stakeholders across the business.
- A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a small, fast-moving environment.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to join a specialist financial markets business where you will have genuine visibility across the organisation. Rather than being confined to one discipline, you will have the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of market risk, trading operations, business processes and change, working directly alongside a senior member of the business. It would suit someone who enjoys variety, wants responsibility and is looking to develop their career within a specialist brokerage environment.
