Overview of the Role
The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) is a flagship Etio contract delivered on behalf of the Department for Education (DfE). The NCETM works in partnership with Maths Hubs across England to improve mathematics teaching and leadership. It supports the ongoing professional development of all those who teach maths in schools and colleges, particularly through its coordination of the Maths Hubs Programme, with teaching for mastery as an underpinning principle of its work.
The Communications Manager will support the NCETM Communications Team in promoting the Maths Hubs Programme. This part-time role focuses on producing clear, effective content across channels, with a strong emphasis on high-quality copywriting, including case studies, interviews and impact stories, alongside social media, email marketing and digital communications. The postholder will be a qualified teacher, bringing an understanding of the school and college context, and experience of working in education or education-focused communications. They will contribute to campaign delivery, support audience engagement, and use data and insight to inform and improve communications activity.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the overall strategic thinking and direction of the Communications team.
- Write, edit, and proof high-quality content for a range of channels, including web, email and social media, with a strong focus on case studies, interviews and impact stories.
- Plan and deliver social media content that supports campaign objectives and engages target audiences, using Mailchimp or other CRM systems as appropriate.
- Record, present and edit podcast content, and support the creation of social media promotional assets to extend reach and engagement.
- Support the delivery of email marketing campaigns, including content creation, scheduling and performance monitoring.
- Apply digital marketing principles to improve reach, engagement and conversion across channels.
- Use CRM systems to manage audiences, segment communications and support targeted campaigns.
- Monitor and analyse performance data, using insights to refine content and improve outcomes.
- Work closely with colleagues across the NCETM and Maths Hubs Network to gather content and ensure consistency of messaging.
- Support campaign planning and delivery in line with programme priorities and DfE requirements.
- Ensure content is accurate, accessible and aligned with NCETM and DfE standards.
- Contribute to maintaining a consistent tone of voice and brand across all communications.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
- Experience in a communications or marketing role, including within a school, trust, or education-focused journalism or publishing environment.
- Qualified teacher, with experience in any school or college phase, including those no longer working in teaching roles.
- A clear interest in, and commitment to, the teaching of maths.
- Strong experience of writing and managing long-form web content and short-form social media content.
- Good understanding of digital marketing principles, including SEO, GEO and Google Analytics.
- Experience of email marketing platforms and campaign delivery.
- Working knowledge of CRM systems and audience segmentation.
- Ability to interpret data and analytics and use insights to improve performance.
- Experience of working in a small, fast-paced, remote team.
- Ability to work proactively, manage workload effectively, and prioritise without close supervision.
- Understanding of working with or within government departments or publicly funded programmes.
- Experience of working on national programmes or contracts.
- Familiarity with the Maths Hubs Programme or similar education initiatives.
- Experience of using website content management systems.
- Understanding of accessibility standards in digital content.
