The Part-Qualified Accountant will support the finance function across statutory reporting, management accounting, financial analysis and broader business requirements. The role requires a technically capable and highly organised individual who can prepare accurate financial information, work effectively to deadlines and respond flexibly to a varied workload. The successful candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Excel, have practical experience preparing UK financial statements and demonstrate sound management accounting knowledge.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of annual statutory financial statements for UK entities in accordance with applicable UK accounting standards and Companies Act requirements.
  • Prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations and working papers for year-end reporting and the external audit process.
  • Liaise with external auditors and respond promptly to audit queries, providing clear and complete supporting documentation.
  • Assist with ensuring that statutory filings and other reporting obligations are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.Management Accounting and Financial Analysis
  • Prepare small Corporate monthly management accounts, including journals, accruals, prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations and supporting analysis.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting, including investigation and explanation of material variances.
  • Produce accurate and timely financial reports for management and other stakeholders.
  • Analyse financial and operational data to identify trends, risks and opportunities, presenting findings clearly and concisely.
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of financial controls, reporting processes and accounting procedures.Systems, Internal Audit and Ad Hoc Support
  • Use Microsoft Excel to prepare, analyse and present financial information, including the use of formulas, pivot tables, lookups and other appropriate data-analysis tools.
  • Where relevant, support internal audit assignments, including process walkthroughs, control testing, documentation of findings and follow-up of agreed actions.
  • Respond to a range of ad hoc financial, commercial and administrative requests, prioritising tasks appropriately and delivering accurate outputs within required timescales.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the business to resolve queries and provide practical financial support.
  • Undertake other duties and project work consistent with the responsibilities of the role.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Strong Microsoft Excel capability, with confidence handling and analysing detailed financial data.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles, financial controls and reporting processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and high-quality work.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and adapt to changing business requirements.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Analytical and methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Commercial awareness and sound professional judgement.
  • Proactive, dependable and willing to take ownership of tasks.
  • Flexible and comfortable responding to ad hoc requests.

Experience

  • Practical experience preparing UK statutory financial statements.
  • Relevant management accounting experience, including month-end close activities and balance sheet reconciliations.Desireable but not essential:
  • Previous internal audit experience, including control testing, process reviews or audit support.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity, group or international organisation.
  • Experience with finance systems, reporting tools or process-improvement initiatives.

Education Requirements

  • Part-qualified accountant actively studying towards an ACCA, CIMA, ICAS or ICAEW qualification, or an equivalent recognised professional qualification.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in Aberdeen city centre office 3 days a week
