Assistant Ecologist Placement
Ethos Environmental Planning Ltd is offering a 6‑month placement opportunity for an Assistant Ecologist, ideal for recent graduates looking to gain practical experience in ecological consultancy.

Based in our Bath office, you’ll support our ecology team with field surveys (including habitats and protected species) and office‑based tasks such as data analysis, desk studies, and report preparation. You’ll work alongside experienced ecologists and gain hands‑on experience across a range of development and conservation projects. Some evening survey work and occasional overnight stays will be required.
This role is designed to provide a strong foundation in consultancy work, with mentoring and training provided throughout the placement.
About You
- You must be studying towards, or have recently completed, a degree in ecology or a related subject
- Keen to gain field experience and develop practical consultancy skills
- A basic knowledge of UK species identification is desirable
- A genuine interest in pursuing a career in wildlife and ecology is essential
- You must be organised, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
- Basic data analysis or GIS skills are desirable
- Full UK driving licence and access to a car is essential
- You should have an awareness of key environmental policies, legislation, and best practice
- You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Working Arrangements
- Contract: Fixed term (6 months)
- Hours: Full time – 36 hours/week based on a 9‑day fortnight (Ethos offers a discretionary 9‑day fortnight where staff receive every other Friday off).
- This role is office based in Bath, but flexible working hours including hybrid working are available.
- Holiday: 25 days annual leave (pro rata), plus bank holidays
