This role will directly support clients on their employment journey to overcome barriers, build confidence, and gain essential skills for careers focused on sustainability, climate resilience, and environmental restoration. We are looking to recruit a Project Support Officer to support delivery of the project.

This role needs to be delivered in person.

Travel across Swansea region will be required for this role.

This role would be ideal for candidates aged 18-30 and we encourage those who have had experience of being supported by the Green Careers Project to apply.

An Enhanced DBS will be required for this role.

Evidence of permission to work will be required.

Project Overview

EYST is excited to Join Pobl on their Green Careers Pathway Project. The Employment coach will be part of the Green Careers Pathway team but will be based in EYST.

The Project Support Officer will support the delivery of the project and support young people (aged 16-30) in Swansea to overcome barriers, build confidence, and gain essential skills for careers focused on sustainability, climate resilience, and environmental restoration.

This position emphasizes developing employability and green skills that align with the growing green economy and contribute to reducing carbon emissions, restoring nature, and promoting climate adaptation.

This role requires a proactive, inclusive approach to empower young people, enhance their employability, and enable them to contribute to a more sustainable future.

Aims of the Post

1. Support project delivery by Actively engage young people, particularly those from underrepresented groups, including women, individuals with disabilities, and ethnic minority communities, to participate in green initiatives and build pathways into the green sector.

2. Support the provision of tailored coaching, training, and mentorship to help participants build confidence, develop skills, and prepare for sustainable careers.

3. Foster equitable access to job opportunities in the green economy, ensuring that all participants can succeed in meaningful, environmentally focused careers

4. Support the delivery of personalised support to each participant, focusing on skill development that aligns with current and future needs in the green economy.

5. Support the delivery of the project and work closely with the Employment Coach to support participants

6. Support EYST agenda to improve Green efficiency and knowledge.

Principal Accountabilities and Main Duties

  1. Support the delivery of Individualised Support and Engagement

This includes:

  • Deliver personalised coaching through consistent one-on-one sessions and targeted group workshops, adapting to each participant's pace and needs to build confidence and encourage active participation.
  • Establish trust, safety, and security by leveraging the organisation’s existing rapport with young people.
  • Continuously refine coaching approaches based on participant feedback and outcomes to improve support strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Placement Coordinator to enhance learning and placement opportunities within the green job market.

Track participant progress, assess outcomes, and prepare reports that contribute to policy insights and funding considerations.

2. Support Participant Engagement and Inspiration

This includes:

  • Identify young people aged 16–30 in collaboration with local community organisations, ensuring diverse inclusion of individuals with disabilities and those from ethnically minoritised communities.
  • Build rapport through one-on-one coaching and group activities, encouraging program participation and building self-confidence.
  • Address individual engagement barriers, providing tailored support to help participants initiate their path toward green careers.

3. Support Career Exploration and Skill Development

This includes

  • Assist young people in recognising and articulating their skills, strengths, and areas for growth, focusing on job-readiness skills such as social, technical, and life skills.
  • Educate participants on green skills, including sustainability practices and renewable energy knowledge, through workshops and skill-building sessions.
  • Support job readiness with resources for CV writing, job search techniques, and mock interviews.

4. Support Work Experiences and Placements

This includes

  • Organise volunteering and work placements in green sectors, working with employers to ensure inclusive and accessible opportunities.
  • Engage with local communities to promote the Green Careers Pathway, particularly among marginalised groups, using established relationships with community organisations to enhance outreach.
  • Foster professional relationships with delivery partners, contractors, training providers, and employers to ensure a cohesive support system for participants.
  • Act as a connector between participants and local green career opportunities, identifying placements and entry-level roles that align with their interests and skills.

5. Support the delivery of In-Work Support and Career Progression

  • Provide ongoing coaching for up to one-year post-placement to support job retention and career development.
  • Assist participants in accessing training bursaries and further education in partnership with green sector training providers and institutions.

6. Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Green Careers

This includes:

  • Partner with employers to ensure green career opportunities are accessible to women, young people with disabilities, and those from ethnically minoritised backgrounds.
  • Document insights and share learnings from the program to inform policy and promote equitable hiring practices within the green sector.

7. To support and attend in regular network meeting for partners to attend and share updates and learning and highlight issues

8. To present regular progress reports to funders, the EYST Co-directors and EYST Board as required

9. To ensure that the project promotes and reflects equality of opportunity at all levels.

10. To ensure that EYST Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equal Opportunities and all other relevant policies are implemented.

11. To maintain all administrative and financial records related to the project, in accordance with EYST administrative and financial systems.

12.To work with the EYST Co-directors and Board to set and maintain a culture of high professional standards and to deliver best value services.

13.To carry out any other duties that may from time to time be required.

Person Specification (all elements essential)

Essential

1. At least one years’ experience of working with ethnic minority communities, preferably in Wales.

2. Community Engagement Skill

3. Capability to collaborate

4. Specific knowledge and experience of the issues faced by diverse ethnic minority communities in Wales with reference to employability.

5. Good Knowledge of Green careers and sustainability

6. Ability to empathise, support and empower clients.

7. Able to work independently and with considerable discretion but to seek advice as required

8. Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills

9. Experience of monitoring projects and recording client support using Client CRM systems

10. In depth understanding and commitment to equal opportunities, along with a commitment to contribute to the development of policy and practices in this area

11. Self-motivated and able to work to deadlines and under pressure in a high intensity environment.

12. Ability to travel across Swansea region

13. Good IT skills including Email, Powerpoint, Word, Excel and Remote Working skills (Zoom, etc) with the ability to adapt to new technology
