Role and key responsibilities for Revenue Assistant:

  • Applying all changes to Council Tax and Business Rates accounts and authorising invoices raised by internal departments.
  • Taking card payments using industry standard software.
  • Maintaining an up to date knowledge of Council Tax, Business Rates and Sundry Debt legislation and internal procedures and processes, keeping fully appraised of relevant changes.
  • Setting up direct debits and dealing with sensitive financial information in a confidential and secure manner.
  • Dealing with billing exception reports and rebilling accounts as necessary.
  • Assessing and raising refunds.
  • Setting up payment arrangements and special payment arrangements in line with our internal processes, completing financial statements where necessary.
  • Promoting online services to residents and assisting them in creating an account and linking this to their Council Tax or Business Rates account.

Minimum Requirements for Revenue Assistant:

  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018, specifically around GDPR and the impact this has on the Revenues Service.
  • Knowledge of Revenues billing and recovery statutory legislation.
  • Experience of operating billing, recovery and invoicing systems.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to work to a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
