Job Title: Mechanical & Electrical Preventative Maintenance Engineer Location: Shepshed, Leicestershire Shift Pattern: Nights – Sunday to Thursday Job Type: Temporary (with potential to become permanent) Sector: Metal Waste Recycling Pay Rate: £18.00 – £20.00 per hour (depending on experience) About the Role We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive Mechanical & Electrical Preventative Maintenance Engineer to join a busy metal waste recycling facility in Shepshed. This is a night-shift role, offering 40–45 hours per week, and plays a key role in keeping plant equipment operating efficiently and safely. This temporary role offers the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. Key Responsibilities * Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems. * Diagnose faults and repair machinery to minimise downtime. * Respond to unplanned maintenance issues during night shifts. * Maintain accurate records of completed work and report recurring issues. * Collaborate with day-shift teams to ensure effective communication and handovers. * Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times. Requirements * Proven experience in both mechanical and electrical maintenance, ideally in an industrial or recycling environment. * Recognised qualifications in mechanical and/or electrical engineering (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent). * Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work independently on night shifts and manage workload efficiently. * Flexible and reliable approach to tasks and responsibilities. Desirable * Experience working in a metal recycling or heavy industrial setting. * Knowledge of PLCs and automated systems.
