Job role / duties
- Train and mentor the team to ensure high levels ok knowledge and skills
- Monitor and report on performance to highlight areas of training needed
- Engage with the recruitment process and carry out inductions
- Oversee and participate in the plant breeding process such as controlled pollination, seed germination, propagation and trial assessments.
- Ensure all plant care operations
- Support assessments and data collection on new hybrids and report to SMT
- Monitor both glasshouse & field environments to maintain biosecurity and IPM protocol
- Ensure the safe operation of machinery and equipment
- Maintain accurate records of all breeding activity and progress
- Identify issues affecting plant health and report on cause
To be considered for this role you MUST:
- Possess a Horticultural qualification
- Possess experience of team leader / supervision in a plant breeding, horticulture, or nursery environment
- Have a good understanding propagation, greenhouse & field management, and integrated pest management
- Be highly organised and have excellent record keeping skills
- Ideally possess PA1 / PA6 spraying licences and tractor or telehandler licence
- Hold a full clean driving licence
