We are seeking a skilled and motivated CNC Turner Setter Programmer & Operator to join our client’s precision engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating 5‑axis CNC machines to produce complex, high‑precision components. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and efficiency in manufacturing.
Salary: 34,632 per annum / 18.00 per hour. PAYE, Paid weekly, Statutory Deductions for TAX, NI and Pension if not opted out apply. Rising to: 18.50 per hour / Approx 35.500 after 12 weeks.
Working hours: Monday – Thursday 08:00 to 17:15 (37 hours). Friday optional overtime.
Key Responsibilities:- Program, set up, and operate CNC Turning Machines to manufacture precision components.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Optimize machining processes, cutting strategies, and tooling selection for efficiency and accuracy.
- Conduct first-off inspections, in-process checks, and final quality control using precision measurement tools (CMM, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
- Troubleshoot machining issues and adjust programs, tooling, or set-ups as required.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve manufacturability and reduce cycle times.
- Maintain machines, tooling, and equipment to ensure reliability and accuracy.
- Adhere to company safety procedures, quality standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Apprenticeship, NVQ, or Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience operating and programming CNC machines (Heidenhain, Siemens, Fanuc, or similar controls).
- Strong understanding of CAD-CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Hypermill, Fusion 360, NX, or equivalent).
- In-depth knowledge of machining techniques, tooling, and material properties (metals, alloys, composites).
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with high‑precision industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, or mold/toolmaking.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
- Familiarity with automation, robotics, or multi‑machine cell setups.
