We are expanding our clerking service! Schools Alliance for Excellence (SAfE) is a local education partnership with deep-rooted expertise in Surrey’s education sector and we’re looking for both experienced clerks and those who are interested in clerking as a new career step. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking a flexible, part-time role that can fit around other commitments. SAfE’s Clerking Service launched in September 2025 and has seen incredible demand and success. We are now looking to expand our team and are actively recruiting additional clerks to join us!
The clerk to the governors plays a vital role in the effective operation of the governing body. Key responsibilities include:
- Administrative and Organisational Support: Providing comprehensive administrative support including the preparation and distribution of agendas and papers, accurate minute-taking, and the maintenance of governance records and documentation.
- Governance Guidance: Offering guidance on governance, constitutional and procedural matters to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Procedural Advice: Advising the governing body on meeting procedures to support effective decision-making and efficient meetings.
- Attend all governing body meetings (approx 6 per year).

- Work from home - for preparation and minute-writing.
- The position provides flexible opportunities to support one or multiple schools, subject to organisational requirements and workload demand.
- 1 school assignment typically involves 60 hours per year.
