Are you the kind of person who spots a problem and fixes it? Do you enjoy practical, hands‑on work where you can see the difference you make every day? Truro and Penwith College are looking for two full‑time Estates Operatives to join our proactive and supportive Estates team. These are varied, physical roles at the heart of the College, helping to keep our campuses safe, secure, well‑maintained and ready for learning. No two days are the same — one day you could be responding to maintenance requests, the next supporting events, managing site security, or helping prepare facilities for students and staff.
The Role
- Open, close and secure College buildings as a key holder
- Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, fixtures and fittings
- Support reactive and planned maintenance projects across College sites
- Respond to requests via the internal helpdesk system and ensure work is completed within agreed timescales
- Support health and safety compliance, including routine checks and risk assessments
- Maintain external areas, including paths, car parks and grounds
- Assist with room set‑ups, furniture moves, events and College lettings
- Support cleaning duties, refuse collection and graffiti removal as required
- Assist with College transport, deliveries and movement of equipment
- Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends where needed
About You
- You’ll be practical, reliable and adaptable, with experience in estates, facilities or maintenance work (education sector experience desirable but not essential)
- Skills in minor repairs, basic maintenance, grounds work and equipment operation
- A good understanding of health and safety and safe working practices
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
- A professional, approachable manner and pride in your work
- A full driving licence and willingness to travel between sites
- You’ll also be willing to undertake training (including first aid, manual handling, health and safety and specialist estates training) and work flexibly to support College operations.
