Saltney Small Steps, located at Saltney Ferry CP School, is looking to appoint a Playgroup Assistant. We are a warm, nurturing, and community-focused playgroup dedicated to supporting young children's early development through play, creativity and the Welsh-language. We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic Playgroup Assistant to join our friendly and committed team.
Role Overview:
As a Playgroup Assistant, you will be involved in creating a safe, stimulating, and welcoming environment where children can learn, explore, and grow. You will work closely with the Playgroup Leader and other staff members to deliver high-quality, early years experiences using Welsh phrases, helping to foster confidence, independence, and a love of learning in each child.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the daily running of the playgroup and assist in planning and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate activities.
- Promote and model the use of the Welsh language through the session, providing care, supervision, and encouragement to children aged 2–4.
- Help to maintain a safe, clean and inclusive environment, building positive relationships with children, their families and your colleagues.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and adhering to health and safety procedures.
Essential Requirements:
- Ability to use Welsh phrases and promote a warm, patient and enthusiastic approach to working with young children.
- Ability to work well as part of a supportive team and communicate effectively with both children, staff and parents.
- Clear understanding of safeguarding practice in a setting.
Desirable:
- Previous experience of working in education, early years or childcare settings.
- A relevant childcare qualification, such as CCLD Level 2 or 3, or willingness to work towards one.
- A Paediatric First Aid qualification is advantageous, although training can be provided.
