We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Cover Supervisor to join our team, supporting students across a range of subjects and year groups. This is a vital role that ensures continuity of learning during the short‑term absence of class teachers, whether planned or unplanned. You will supervise whole classes or small groups, ensuring students remain engaged with the curriculum tasks set by their teacher, while managing behaviour effectively and minimising disruption to learning. When not covering lessons, you will play an active role in supporting students within the classroom, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN). You may also be involved in exam invigilation, delivering interventions, supporting duties for absent staff, or any other reasonable student‑facing responsibilities.

The postholder will administer the planned and unplanned teaching cover requirements of the Academy, ensure the cover is organised to a high standard, is cost‑effective and meets Academy needs. The postholder is responsible for coordinating lesson cover in line with Academy procedures and national guidelines. This role will involve an early morning start of 6.30 am to ensure accessibility to the best agency teaching staff and meet the high expectations of the Academy.

About you

  • A strong understanding of learning processes, barriers to learning and behaviour management strategies to support effective lesson delivery.
  • The ability to build effective learning relationships with students to support their progress.
  • Strong working relationships with teachers and academy staff, contributing positively to the wider school community.
  • Confidence to manage and supervise classes effectively, maintaining a calm and productive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A sound working knowledge of IT to support teaching and learning, including Microsoft Office and internet use.
  • The ability to manage classroom activities and resources safely and effectively.
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Applicants are advised to refer to the full requirements of the role in the attached job description and person specification, prior to submitting an application.
