About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will provide technical assurance and hands-on engineering support to a refinery Production Unit, ensuring mechanical assets remain safe, reliable, compliant and available to support production. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Integrity and Technology teams, you will act as the focal point for mechanical engineering matters, helping to resolve equipment issues, manage risk and maintain asset integrity in a fast-paced operational environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing day-to-day mechanical engineering support for plant operations and maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshooting equipment failures and developing practical repair and maintenance solutions.
  • Leading engineering assurance activities including Management of Change (MOC), corrective actions, inspections and operational risk assessments.
  • Supporting asset integrity, regulatory compliance and process safety requirements including COMAH, PSSR, ATEX and PUWER.
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and contractors to deliver maintenance, inspection and short-term project activities.
  • Contributing to Goal Zero, driving safe working practices and supporting incident investigations where required.
  • Supporting plant availability and turnaround activities, including participation in engineering duty rotas and out-of-hours support.

About You

You are a proactive and solutions-focused Mechanical Engineer who enjoys working in a challenging operational environment. With experience in the petrochemical, refining or a similar heavy industrial sector, you have a strong understanding of mechanical equipment, maintenance practices and engineering standards. You are comfortable making sound technical decisions, managing competing priorities and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to keep critical assets operating safely and efficiently.

You will bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A good level of experience supporting mechanical assets within a petrochemical, refinery or similar industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of engineering codes and standards such as API, ASME and British Standards.
  • Experience in maintenance support, equipment repairs, welding and fabrication activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess technical risks and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and technical report-writing capabilities.
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure in a reactive operational environment.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or actively working towards professional registration.
  • Experience supporting Management of Change processes, operational risk assessments and asset integrity programmes.
  • Previous experience mentoring junior engineers or graduates.
