About Estendio

We are a mission-driven accessibility start-up dedicated to transforming the way the 1 billion disabled and neurodivergent people in our world work, learn and live. Since launching our first product, Present Pal, in 2018, Estendio has supported students across over 150 universities in the UK and US to communicate with confidence. Building on that success, we’ve now launched Tailo, an AI-powered reading platform that creates a personalised reading experience for every mind. As we scale into new markets, we are seeking to redefine accessibility—not just as a legal standard, but as an empowering and intuitive experience for all. This is your chance to join our team of 25 at a pivotal moment: Tailo has excellent early traction in our core market, our team is growing, and the world is waking up to the importance of inclusive tech.

About the Role

We’re now looking for a Product Designer who will play a key role in shaping how Tailo continues to grow and evolve. You’ll work closely with our Lead and Senior Product Designers to translate real user needs into thoughtful, accessible experiences that directly impact how neurodivergent learners read, study and succeed. In this hands-on role, you’ll contribute across the full design process—from research and ideation through to prototyping, testing, and implementation. You’ll collaborate with the Product and Engineering teams to refine our existing user experience, bring new features to life, and ensure every interaction is intuitive, inclusive and impactful.

Key Responsibilities

  • User Research & Insight
    • Plan and conduct hands-on user research to understand behaviours, needs and pain points
    • Synthesise findings to help define problems, shape product direction and prioritise improvements
    • Share insights with the wider team to inform the roadmap and validate early ideas
  • Design & Prototyping
    • Design simple, inclusive and intuitive user experiences from early concepts to polished mockups and interfaces
    • Contribute to and evolve Tailo’s design system and design patterns
    • Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to explore, test, and communicate your solutions
  • Collaboration & Implementation
    • Partner with engineers and members of the product team to ensure designs are clearly communicated and faithfully implemented
    • Support iterative product development through regular testing, feedback, and refinement
    • Maintain a high quality bar across the product through design reviews and collaborative QA

About You

You’re a thoughtful and curious designer who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You care about creating experiences that are both simple and useful - and you're motivated by making a real difference in people’s lives. You love uncovering the “why” behind a problem and you know how to turn user insight into great design. You’re confident working independently but never hesitate to bring others along with your thinking.

Must-Haves

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Product Designer within an in-house product team (or applicable experience)
  • Strong experience across the full design process, including user research
  • Proficient in Figma, with experience creating wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity designs
  • Skilled at conducting and analysing user interviews, usability testing, and other research methods
  • Confident working in agile teams and using tools like Jira and Notion
  • Able to clearly articulate design decisions and collaborate effectively across disciplines

Bonus Points

  • Experience in edtech, accessibility or inclusive design
  • Understanding of neurodiversity and how it shapes learning or interaction with tech
  • Exposure to early-stage or scale-up environments

What we’re looking for

  • You have a solid background in design thinking, with a portfolio to prove it.
  • You’ll thrive being part of an early-stage startup, with all the challenges, ambiguity and excitement that brings. Ideally you’ll have worked in an agile environment and can bring your mindset and experience to help us progress the ways we’re working.
  • Empathy will come naturally to you and you’ll be highly curious as to why something isn’t working. You’ll love uncovering problems and then translating insights into great designs which actually make an impact on the user.
  • You’ll bring a positive energy to the company team dynamic - we are a small but close team so you’ll be someone who works in a self-directed but very collaborative way, bringing others with you.
  • Adaptability is one of our key values so you’ll need resilience to cope in a fast paced environment, a can-do attitude and the ability to roll your sleeves up wherever required!
  • You’ll be ambitious for growth both personally and for Estendio - we’re learning all the time so you’ll be passionate about sharing knowledge and personal development.
  • It would be great if you had an interest in accessibility and a keen interest in levelling the playing field through tech.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the heart of who we are and what we do. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and communities and we are happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments that you require. We also recognise the many talents and advantages of being neurodivergent so we are very open to applicants with neurological differences at Estendio. Finally, we’ll still consider applications which don’t meet every single one of our criteria so don’t be put off if you don’t match them perfectly.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive salary with EMI share options
  • 33 days holiday (including public holidays)
  • 9-day fortnight
  • Remote-first with team meetups
  • Personal development budget
  • Work on something that matters – building inclusive tech for every mind
