This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and technically advanced production environment, where precision, quality and efficiency are at the forefront of operations. You will play a key role in the cutting and processing of materials using CNC laser cutting machinery, supporting the delivery of high-quality components to tight tolerances. This role would suit an experienced operator with a strong attention to detail and a background in fabrication, steel, or heavy manufacturing environments.
As a Laser Machine Operator, you will be responsible for setting, operating and maintaining CNC laser cutting machines to produce components in line with engineering drawings and production schedules. Working closely with production and engineering teams, you will ensure output meets quality standards while maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC laser cutting machines
- Interpret engineering drawings, job sheets and cutting programmes
- Select appropriate materials, tooling and machine settings for each job
- Monitor machine performance and adjust parameters to ensure optimal cutting quality
- Carry out first-off inspections and in-process quality checks
- Load and unload materials using appropriate handling equipment (e.g. FLT / crane where applicable)
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of machinery
- Identify and report faults, defects or production issues promptly
- Work to production targets and deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy
- Ensure all activities are carried out in line with health, safety and environmental procedures
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Proven experience operating CNC laser cutting machinery within a manufacturing or fabrication environment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Strong understanding of materials, particularly steel, stainless steel or aluminium
- Experience working to tight tolerances and quality standards
- Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
- A proactive and reliable approach with a strong work ethic
- Awareness of health & safety requirements within an industrial setting
- Experience with specific laser systems (e.g. Trumpf, Bystronic, Amada)
- Forklift Truck (FLT) or overhead crane licence
- Basic CNC programming or nesting experience
- Background in heavy industry, steel fabrication or sheet metal processing
