About the Role

As Mechanical Specialist in the days team at Skelmersdale, you’ll lead defined maintenance activities with a focus on mechanical systems. You’ll be accountable for the performance and reliability of machinery through preventative and predictive maintenance strategies. This hands-on role is central to our ambition of zero breakdowns and zero stops, and will contribute to both short-term performance and long-term asset development.

What You Will Do

  • Maintenance Leadership: Manage and plan mechanical work on site, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and legal standards
  • Technical Support: Coach and support operational colleagues in resolving mechanical issues and improving machine reliability
  • Performance Management: Own mechanical maintenance KPIs and drive continuous improvement to meet departmental objectives
  • System Oversight: Manage mechanical work through SAP (CMMS), ensuring accurate planning, execution, and documentation
  • Contractor Management: Oversee mechanical contractors and uphold high standards of work, including quality audits and commissioning
  • Team Development: Lead and mentor junior technicians, fostering skill development and capability growth
  • Workshop Excellence: Maintain workshop standards and ensure permit control and health & safety adherence

Who You Are

  • Completed a recognised multi-skilled or mechanical engineering apprenticeship, ideally with City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3
  • Proven mechanical experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, or process environments
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience maintaining complex automated manufacturing systems, including large rotating equipment and hydraulics
  • Skilled in planning, mentoring, and problem-solving, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines
  • Experience using SAP for maintenance planning and execution
  • FMCG experience extremely desirable.
