Our Controlling team within the Medical division, focused on global logistics management and business supply chain, is currently looking to recruit an Assistant Controller on a full-time, permanent basis at our Willerby office.

As Assistant Controller, you will play a key role in supporting product costing, logistics analysis, and group reporting for the European distribution and warehousing operations.

You will be part of a close-knit 3-person team, reporting to the Senior Controller and collaborating with colleagues across Germany, North America, and other global locations. This role offers a unique opportunity to deepen your controlling expertise in a dynamic FMCG manufacturing environment, especially as we continue integrating systems and processes following the acquisition of BSN Medical by Essity.

What you will do

You will be responsible for executing core controlling activities including:

  • Posting journals in SAP, performing reconciliations, and preparing Excel-based management reports.
  • Supporting freight analysis and cost center accounting.
  • Maintaining data in SAP, analyzing purchase price variances, and executing quarterly product cost / AP updates and calculations based on market requests.
  • Being the point of contact with the Accounts Payable team for queries and issues on vendor invoicing and payments; managing internal approvals on third-party logistics documents to avoid overdues.
  • Providing financial calculations and insights to stakeholders in Logistics, Procurement, and Supply Chain to support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Applying inventory valuation and counting guidelines, executing inventory accounting.
  • Supporting interim and year-end audits, operating in line with corporate and legal financial guidelines, and educating stakeholders on compliance with MICR. You will also execute system reconciliations.
  • Being accountable for the performance management process within your department and ensuring appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Acting as a role model for safety, promoting a culture of safety awareness and compliance across all activities.

Who You Are

With some experience of working in a controlling role, you must be part-qualified in a recognised Accounting qualification, such as CIMA, ACCA, or AAT. An understanding of product costing would be an advantage, along with experience working with SAP or another ERP system. You will be handling large data sets, so a strong analytical flair and a keenness to manipulate data is key, along with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage high volumes of complex data. You will need to be highly proficient with MS Office, particularly Excel, and able to prioritise your work effectively to meet expectations. Good communication skills — both written and verbal — are also essential, as most liaising will be via email, phone, or Skype rather than face-to-face.

What We Can Offer You

This is a great opportunity to join a global company that has a local presence and is responsible for market-leading wound care products in the UK such as Cutimed and Leukoplast. Along with a competitive salary and benefits package, we would also consider funding your remaining studies.

At Essity, we believe every career is as unique as the individual and empower employees to reach their full potential in a winning culture motivated by a powerful purpose.

We offer a collaborative and caring work environment, empowerment, meaningful job impact, individual learning and development opportunities, health & safety, social responsibility, and innovation.
