School Crossing Patrol Officer – Lawford Mead Primary

A permanent, term‑time position at Lawford Mead County Infant & Junior Schools, Trent Road, Chelmsford.

The role supports schools in the morning and afternoon to ensure safety of pedestrians crossing the road. The position is approximately 7.5 hours per week during the 39 weeks of the academic year, with 45 minutes between 08:00‑09:00 in the morning and 45 minutes between 14:45‑15:45 in the afternoon.

Salary: £13.00 per hour. Location: Chelmsford. Working style: Community‑based worker.

Responsibilities

  • Consider the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired people using the crossing point.
  • Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
  • Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site to identify problems; report problems and defects to supervisor.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents, failure‑to‑stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
  • Ensure all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and request replacements when needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensure that traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
