An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individuals to undertake the role of Police National Computer (PNC) Support Officer located within the PNC Bureau at Essex Police Headquarters.
We are looking for staff to cover office hours positions, typically on a rota between 08.00 and 18.00, Monday to Friday.
You will be part of a multi-skilled, dynamic team, supporting operational policing by receiving and actioning enquiries and messages in relation to the Police National Computer, Athena and other police record systems.
The PNC Bureau ensures the accuracy and integrity of data held within the Police National Computer (PNC) and provides a timely, effective enquiry and update service in relation to the system. This involves the storage of data and release of information held on PNC, along with other related systems, all of which is processed in accordance with legislative requirements and national and local policy, to support the effective delivery of operational policing objectives for Essex Police.
A new and developing feature of the role is the introduction of the Law Enforcement Data Service (LEDS), which is gradually being rolled out to all forces across the country. As a new entrant to the section, you will be at the forefront in ensuring the new system is embedded into our working practices, supporting the force and its objectives as a whole.
This is a challenging role that requires the successful candidates to work both independently and as part of a larger team whilst maintaining consistent levels of attention to detail.
Within the role you will be required to demonstrate the ability to interpret and analyse data whilst investigating and resolving inconsistencies, therefore strong computer, literacy, and numeracy skills along with experience of using databases is essential.

- Previous experience of gathering information and your ability to analytically review material in order to make informed decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, as you will be required to provide rationales to support the decisions you make.
- Strong telephone and listening skills are essential to ensure accurate dialogue with callers.
- Your ability to work in an open-minded and innovative way bringing solutions to problems you face.
- Your experience of office technology, including Microsoft products such as Word and Excel.
Essex Police offer incremental increases within this salary band, therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of£28,650.00.
