Opportunities have arisen for enthusiastic and energetic staff committed to delivering exceptional levels of customer service to join our dedicated team undertaking the role of Business Services Assistant in the demanding shared service environment of the Business Centre.

Based at Great Dunmow Police Station, permanent vacancies are available across the core hours of 0800 – 1700 Monday to Friday; however, there is a requirement to work some evenings and weekends on occasions.

The Business Centre is a large busy department providing a wide range of shared support services to Police Officers, PCSO’s, Special Constabulary and other support staff within both the Essex Police and Kent Police forces.

Successful candidates will join our existing teams managing challenging demands and deadlines responsible for responding to high levels of telephone and email enquiries. You will be providing advice and guidance, processing actions to meet Service Level Agreements to update and administer electronic records and providing a wide range of finance, human resources and other transactional support functions in order to deliver an effective and efficient service to operational policing and a range of other support teams.

Applicants will need to provide evidence of the following essential skills and experience within the reason for application:

  • Strong team working skills and be able to demonstrate a degree of flexibility to adapt to working collectively across all teams to meet challenging deadlines and demands.
  • Evidenced delivery of exceptional levels of customer service with experience of working in a customer or shared service environment.
  • Experience of using multiple Microsoft packages including Excel, Word and Outlook and the ability to master new software packages.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail when inputting and logging vast amounts of data entry and processing transactions.

In addition, it would be desirable to evidence:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written) together with a confident telephone manner.
  • Educated to GCSE level in Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Experience of maintaining and inputting data to IT systems, including knowledge of SAP, although full training will be provided.

The role will offer flexibility in terms of place of work, including some home working. The extent of flexibility will be agreed through individual assessment with the line manager to assess operational requirements and individual’s suitability for home working.

Successful applicants for this role will be defined as an Office based Agile Worker: Office based agile working with designated team area. Works predominantly (60% or more) in one office space. The rest of the time works at home or at other police site locations.

Kent Police and Essex Police have separate salary grading systems; therefore, the salary for this position will be dependent on which home office force you are appointed to. This will be discussed with the successful applicant before a final offer is made.

Depending on your current vetting level and security clearances, you may be required to complete additional vetting information during the recruitment process.
