An opportunity to join our customer focused technical IT Field Operations team, working across a wide range of technologies and applications on the Windows 11 Operating Systems. Gaining wide exposure to the latest laptop and desktop hardware and software, Video Conferencing Solutions and supporting Police Officers, Staff and Volunteers across Kent.
The IT Field Operations team provide IT support for Windows based workstations, laptops and their peripherals alongside bespoke Policing hardware and software and MS Teams Video Conferencing solutions. Providing mobile IT support across the County. The current vacancy is to support all Kent Police sites across the county.
As a Field Operations Engineer, day to day duties will involve a significant amount of driving, attending Police Stations and other sites across the county to provide on-site, face to face IT support to Police Officers and Staff. Ensuring they have the necessary IT equipment to enable them to perform their duties. Therefore, a full valid manual UK driving licence is required for the role along with the ability to work both alone (remotely) as well as part of a team.
The role also entails providing support at our office drop-in repair centre, located at Coldharbour Police station Aylesford Kent, as well as IT equipment moves and changes around the County, which involves manual handling of IT and video conferencing equipment. Supporting front line officers and staff is vitally important, so patience, tact and positivity is required, to put our operational officers at ease, and to be able to work through their technical requirements, installations and repairs.
We are looking for an adaptable, self-motivated, and enthusiastic person to join this hard-working Field Operations team. Ideally someone who has worked within an IT operations environment previously, preferably within a similar support role with CompTIA A+ accreditation (or similar), however if you do not have this prior experience but do have a passion for IT, please tell us about any alternative experience or academic learning in IT that you have.
The ability to support Microsoft products, in particular Windows 11, is key for the role and an aptitude to learn appropriate technical skills quickly, as well as the ability to work alone (remotely) and as part of a team.
Please provide evidence of the following essential skills in your letter of application:
- Effective Communication skills, preferably gained within a customer service environment, as well as a good standard of English.
- Your ability to work with others to effectively interact, cooperate, collaborate and manage conflicts with other people to complete tasks and achieve shared goals.
- Your working knowledge of desktop and laptop hardware and diagnostic skills, as well as your understanding of the principles of ITIL in a support services arena.
- Any working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 11 operating systems as well as knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- The ability to work within a fast paced, and pressurised environment as well as the ability to work remotely with tight timescales, prioritise your workloads and use own initiative.
- A valid UK driver’s license.
Please also evidence if you have any knowledge or understanding of the following desirable areas in your application for this role:
- Any basic awareness and understanding of Microsoft Active Directory and networking.
- Any diagnostic and hardware skills regarding AV (Video conference) equipment and printer / MFD devices.
- SharePoint and Office 365 awareness.

The role is a field operation engineer role, physically based out of Coldharbour Police Station Aylesford, with some office-based work. Supporting our Officers and staff across Kent Police sites. There may also be occasions where you are required to visit Essex-based Police sites.
Standard Office hours are 08:00 – 16:00 Monday to Friday, however there may be occasions where you are asked to work outside of these core hours to meet operational requirements so some flexibility would be expected.
