Job overview: Avocet is a 21 bedded sub-acute elderly medicine and rehabilitation ward. Patients are admitted with a range of long-term medical conditions such as respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and orthopaedic conditions. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the continuous development of the ward and advancement in patient-centred care, as well as keen to progress in their knowledge and skills. Main duties of the job:
- The post holder will be responsible for providing all aspects of patient care through the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programs of care.
- The post holder will assist and is expected to supervise junior staff and be able to teach qualified and unqualified staff.
- The post holder will work effectively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to support the planning and achievement of local service objectives.
- The post holder will support the Matron/Sister in ensuring effective and efficient day to day running of the ward maintaining safety at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
- To adhere to the Trust's agreed policies and procedures.

- To provide a quality service to internal and external agencies and participate/develop clinical governance within sphere of responsibility.

- To work at an advanced clinical level and be a role model for all staff.
- Manage the clinical area in the absence of more senior staff to ensure effective communication between all MDT to ensure safe management of patients.
Person specification:
- Experience in a medical ward or equivalent.
- Experience in treating long term medical conditions.
- NMC standards.
